Bollywood hunk Salman Khan is once again seen on the big screen with Sikandar, an action drama movie directed by AR Murugadoss. It was out on March 30, 2025, on Eid days, and it had promised something new with the bold mix of action, drama, and emotion. But did it hit the spot? Let's examine it in detail in this review.
Storyline – A Revenge and Redemption Story
The film is about Sikandar (Salman Khan), a guy who is facing personal loss and social issues. When his wife (Rashmika Mandanna) meets a tragic end, her organs are donated to other deserving individuals. But when these individuals become the target of a corrupt political party, Sikandar embarks on a challenging task to defend them and keep his deceased wife in mind.
The idea is emotive and promising, but the way it is built is poor. The movie has uneventful plots and no suspenseful moments.
Star Performances – Salman Shines, Others Fade
- Salman Khan as Sikandar – The actor delivers with a power-packed performance in action sequences but lacks emotional depth.
- Rashmika Mandanna – With only a minor role, she doesn't get much opportunity to impress.
- Kajal Aggarwal – Has a good role but poor screen presence.
- Suniel Shetty, Sharman Joshi, Prateik Babbar, Sathyaraj, and Anjini Dhawan – The supporting cast does not impress with major actors supporting, as characters are poorly defined.
Direction, Music, and Action
Direction – AR Murugadoss Does Not Succeed
Renowned for conceptualizing quick-paced blockbusters, AR Murugadoss falls short here. The plot is unmodern and fails to raise the level of thrills as the masses had been expecting. The first half is slow, and the second half is better but not sufficient to salvage the film.
Music – Forgettable Tunes
Composed by Pritam (songs) and Santhosh Narayanan (score), the music is disappointing. The songs do not leave any impression, and even the score lacks energy.
Action Sequences – The Only Saving Grace
Sikandar is excellent with action choreography. The battle scenes are shot well and provide the thrilling entertainment that Salman Khan's fans demand.
Box Office Collections
Despite poor reviews, Sikandar opened well because of Salman Khan's popularity and Eid release. But the absence of good word-of-mouth would affect its long-term box office revenues.
Budget and Revenue
- Budget: ₹200 crore
- Day 1 Collection: Approximately ₹30 crore.
- Break-even Point: ₹250 crore (overseas)
Day one was good, but sustaining the energy level might be challenging.
What works and what fails?
What Works
- Salman Khan is there – Action sequences will appeal to his fans.
- Action sequences – Well-performed stunts and fight sequences.
- Eid release benefit – First box office success.
What Doesn't Work
- Poor screenplay – Lacking depth and too predictable.
- Emotional disconnect – Difficulty in creating authentic emotional responses.
- Underdeveloped characters – Waste of supporting cast.
- Outdated storytelling – Takes you back to an old-school Bollywood action film.
Last Verdict – Watch It Only If You Like Salman Khan!
Sikandar had the potential to be a thrilling action film, but it ends up being a run-of-the-mill movie with a predictable plot and subpar performances. The action sequences are good, but they cannot make the movie memorable.
⭐ Rating: 1.5/5 ⭐
